The Downloader
Optional · saves full media from your UniFi Protect consoleWhat it does
logrrr receives plate reads and snapshots through UniFi Protect's webhook. The Downloader adds more detail to those events: it runs on a Windows computer on the same network as your Protect console, and saves each event's media (snapshot, short clip, full video, whichever you pick) to a folder on that computer. The Uploader then sends it to logrrr. It adds media to events logrrr has already received; it can't recover an event logrrr never received.
The Downloader only talks to your Protect console and the local disk. It never contacts logrrr, so it needs no API key.
What you need
- Windows 10 or 11, or Windows Server 2016 or later, on the same network as the Protect console. Older Windows versions may install, but we don't support them.
- .NET Framework 4.8 (the installer checks, and links to Microsoft's download if it's missing).
- A local admin account on the Protect console (below).
- Room on disk for the media you choose to keep.
Create a local account on the Protect console
The Downloader signs in to your console directly, and a Ubiquiti cloud account (single sign-on) can't be used that way. Create a local account just for logrrr:
- Open your UniFi OS console in a browser (its local IP address) and sign in as an owner.
- Go to Admins & Users and add a new admin.
- Choose Restrict to local access only, and give it a username and a strong password.
- Give it access to UniFi Protect.
- Save. Use this username and password in LogrrrSettings.
Menu names vary a little between UniFi OS versions; the important part is a local-only account with access to Protect.
Find the console's IP address
It's the address you use to open the console on your network, for example 192.168.1.1. In the UniFi Network app it's listed under the console's device details.
Set it up in LogrrrSettings
LogrrrSettings opens on its Getting Started tab. Under Step 1: Connect Your UniFi Protect Console, fill in:
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| UniFi Console IP | The console's local IP address. |
| Username (local admin) | The local account you created. |
| Password | Its password. |
| Local Media Directory | Where media is saved. The default is C:\UnifiProtectMedia. |
| Download events starting from | Leave Use default (today) checked to start from today, or pick an earlier date to fetch older events on the first run. |
Choose Test Connection to check the sign-in, then Save & Continue. If the test fails, see troubleshooting.
Which media to save
On the Download Settings tab, under Storage & Media:
| Option | What it is |
|---|---|
| Thumbnail (.jpg) | The event's snapshot. Small; a good default. |
| Video Clip (-clip.mp4, ~2s) | A short clip around the moment the plate was best seen. Only for smart-detect events. |
| Video (.mp4) | The full event recording. The largest by far. |
| Animated Thumbnail (.gif), Heatmap (.png) | Extra images Protect can make. Not uploaded to logrrr. |
The Uploader has its own list of which types to send, on its own settings tab. A type is only uploaded if the Downloader also saves it. Remember that media you upload counts toward your logrrr storage.
Logs
The Downloader writes one log file a day to Logs\LogrrrUnifiProtectDownloader_YYYY-MM-DD.log inside your media folder. See log files.
